A very civilised dessert...

It could only happen in Oxford that an invitation to join a tutor for dessert could arrive in the post. Dessert with the philosophy tutor seems to be an established tradition here, with all second years receiving an invite at some point.

The dessert took place in college in a splendidly opulent yet dimly lit room off the cloisters. About 15 other undergraduates were present, mostly from the 2nd or 4th years. The table was loaded up with Greek dessert wine, port decanters, fruit bowls and genuine college chocolate. The evening was punctuated with regular rotations so that everyone got a chance to meet everyone else. The whole affair lasted until midnight, after everyone had drunk more port than can possibly have been healthy, and had almost half an hours worth of entertainment from the constant sneezing caused by the 'Turkish Turbo' snuff.

Only in Oxford...

A new blog...

This is just a quick post to christen my brand new shiny blog and signify me jumping on another digital bandwagon. I have absolutely no idea what I'm going to put in here, though I suspect this may come in useful when it comes to recording my travels.

For the meanwhile, a little bit about my week, which has sadly been pretty dull. I've got myself involved with the Hertford College chapel choir. Getting back into singing again was a bit rough! Almost a year without practice has taken its toll. The choir is doing an Evensong in St Pauls on 7th November, which should be really good fun!

Anyway, this will have to do for the minute. Here's hoping I soon work out what sort of things to write in here...
